Medical Office Building

Western Reserve Hospital

Showcasing the quality of the care within

The Western Reserve Medical Office Building established a new Brand for physician-owned Western Reserve Hospital. With Western Reserve stepping forward as a key market force, this building was designed to be a hub for the communities that they engage. It is a destination, like a specialty hotel or lodge in the woods, and is welcoming and emblematic of the community's character. The built environment is safe and efficient, showcases the quality of the care within, easily navigable, and ties the campus to the natural beauty on the site and beyond. The physical building was situated gracefully in the pristine landscape, as a true compliment to the natural amenities.

Sited on 8 acres, the 60,800-SF three-story building accentuates a public concourse that organizes the clinics toward the wetlands to the West. This allows the facility to take advantage of an extraordinary amount of natural daylight in both the public and staff spaces, while capturing the prime views to the wetlands in the staff respite zones. The concourse acts as a circulation organizational tool from the exterior to the interior. Patients move in and around the public concourse to help them focus on their care rather than where they are headed. The pause in the façade, anchors the canopy, defining entry/exterior signage while internally being the organizer of the greeter/registration services at each clinical floor. A monumental stair connects the first and second floor, providing access to the retail component from the two floors. The retail component aligns with a local retail vendor, providing opportunities for staff and patients to take a break both inside of the building and out. The exterior café seating aligns with the green connector of the site that serves as the main promenade for parking to the northeast. The promenade connects the natural landscape across the entire site and aligns to future natural walking paths.
