Optimized for Cancer Research
This two-part renovation project at West Penn Hospital consists of a 8,000 SF melanoma and dermatological skin care clinic and a state-of-the-art cancer research laboratory.
The Melanoma Clinic consists of 13 exam rooms, 2 procedure rooms, a whole-body laser scanning room, and several offices, consult rooms, storage rooms, etc. As a multi-disciplinary practice, the clinic serves as a one-stop shop for skin care, ranging from routine check-ups to skin cancer diagnosis and treatments. To support the center, the cancer-fighting research lab was designed and constructed in tandem on the same floor. This robust laboratory features 3,500 SF of space consisting of three distinct zones: a general research area, a specialized testing lab, and two ISO Class 7 clean rooms. One of these clean rooms is used for genetically modifying live viruses to develop melanoma cancer treatments.
