Tom Stanko
ACHA, AIA
Associate Principal, Project Manager
Tom found his passion for architecture through an unlikely activity: baseball. At the age of 13, he played catcher on an all-star team, and, living in a rural area, he didn’t have a gym to build up his arm strength. So he started chopping down trees as a workout…and built a log cabin. “The rest is history,” he likes to say.
As a project manager, Thomas cultivates and maintains meaningful relationships with his clients and coworkers alike. As operations manager at the Pittsburgh office, he mentors, counsels, and challenges the firm’s team. It’s a good fit for his energetic, team-oriented personality.
Tom is a 25-year veteran of healthcare design, so it’s no surprise his favorite project is DesignGroup’s work on the West Penn Hospital Radiology Department. He says it represents the culmination of everything he’s learned in his career. And he loves how much it benefited the Pittsburgh office.
His greatest source of inspiration? His parents. His dad worked in a steel mill while his mom served as a registered nurse. Despite the challenging jobs and long hours, the two lovingly raised four children. Tom reflects their work ethic every day.
