A Clinical and Research Hub Designed for Precision Skin Cancer Detection
This two-part renovation project at West Penn Hospital consists of a 8,000 SF melanoma and dermatological skin care clinic and a state-of-the-art cancer research laboratory.
The center consists of 14 exam rooms, two procedure rooms, several offices, consult rooms, and storage rooms, all strategically planned to support efficient clinical workflows and an elevated patient experience. Inside, you will also find the region's first and only VECTRA WB360 Whole Body Imaging System, an advanced full body 3D imaging technology that uses 92 high-definition cameras to capture a complete digital avatar of a patient’s skin. As a multi-disciplinary practice, the center serves as a one-stop shop for skin care, ranging from routine check-ups to skin cancer diagnosis and treatments.
To support the center, the cancer-fighting research lab was designed and constructed in tandem on the same floor. The suite brings together a negative pressure ISO 7/BSL 3 virus production laboratory and a positive pressure ISO 7 cleanroom for gene and cell therapy, enabling both high risk and precision research to occur within a single, tightly coordinated footprint. The two rooms share a carefully planned entry sequence that includes gowning space, a double air lock, and alarmed negative pressure controls, while maintaining separate exit paths to prevent cross contamination.
