DesignGroup partnered with Case Western Reserve University to transform the School of Medicine’s aging gross anatomy facilities into modern, technology-rich learning space that aligns with the university’s leadership in medical and anatomical education. The comprehensive renovation consolidated dissection laboratories, cadaver storage, and essential support functions onto the ground floor of the Robbins Building, maximizing the efficiency of the 13,450-SF footprint while strengthening life safety and code compliance.

The revitalized laboratories introduce a powerful blend of traditional dissection resources and cutting-edge digital learning tools. Students now train within state-of-the-art dissection bays and utilize advanced audio-visual systems that support complex demonstrations and collaborative teaching.

The new anatomy labs also incorporate immersive 3D visualization technologies and augmented reality capabilities. This includes MetaQuest devices that work with the CWRU-designed HoloAnatomy App to project interactive holographic anatomy models. These tools expand instructional possibilities by enhancing depth perception, spatial understanding, and visualization of anatomical systems.

The project was delivered in a carefully phased approach to maintain uninterrupted access to critical anatomy teaching spaces. Temporary facilities on the third floor ensured that students, faculty, and researchers could continue cadaveric study throughout construction, enabling seamless academic continuity while major upgrades took place below.
