Lodging for Enhanced Student Life
Originally home to a private social club, University Club is conveniently located on University Place and Fifth Avenue, within walking distance to academic buildings at the University of Pittsburgh’s Oakland Campus. The building previously consisted of 4 floors of non-student housing. DesignGroup converted 23,600 SF across three levels—the fifth, sixth, and seventh floor—into one- and two-bedroom student units.
The scope included upgrades to MEP systems as well as interior finishes to create alignment with life safety code and University Pittsburgh’s standards, branding and sustainability. The units were converted from old carpet tiles to luxury vinyl tiles in wood grain pattern to provide a sense of home feel for students. The showers were fully and carefully gutted and renovated with tiles in vertical running bond pattern to bring a contemporary feel to the space. Units were upgraded with University of Pittsburgh Standard Housing furniture to provide space for studying, relaxing, as well as allow opportunities for personalization for each student.
