Washington Hospital’s CARE Center for Family Birth and Women’s Health unit consisted of a 22,000 square foot renovation to the LDR and postpartum wings, including upgrading their Level 1 nursery to a Level 2 continuing care nursery.
The new finish refresh created a hospitable and pleasant environment celebrating the miracles being born while elevating the standard of care experienced by families. The upgrade of the Level 2 nursery allowed mothers and babies, who need additional care, to stay in the same facility.
The postpartum wing went from 17 rooms to 13 enlarged rooms to allow each new mother access to a spacious bathroom and added amenities. Each room include a separate nook where family and visitors can gather, complete with comfortable furniture to extend their visit. The design brought two teams of staff together through one enlarged nurse station at the focus of the path of travel, which enhances wayfinding for visitors and family members as they move through the space.
