The addition and renovation to the 4,000 SF Walbridge Branch provides the opportunity to provide connection to the surrounding community, bring light into the space, and add an additional 8,000 square feet. Early on, Wood County District Public Library conducted surveys with the public and staff to determined overall needs and wishes for the Walbridge Branch. Responses came back addressing three major needs:
DesignGroup conducted a visioning session with user groups to explore design options and opportunities to meet the needs of the community. The group came to a consensus that a new entry experience and large expanses of glass to open to park views were essential. Entries at the front and the back of the building visually are connected to each other with the new circulation desk in the center of the building, located equally between the two entries. Key areas of improvement also include: a new community lounge, a large meeting room, an expanded children’s area, renovated restrooms, and a new walk-up book drop.
