The Ohio History Connection’s responsibilities include the maintenance and operation of the state archives, collection of and preservation of natural history artifacts. The goal of the new collection facility project is the creation of “museum best-practice” storage space to accommodate 30 additional years of active artifact and paper archive collecting. In addition, it is a goal of this project to increase public access to, and interaction with, Ohio’s collection of historic treasures.
Protection of these artifacts warranted a robust, long-lasting envelope and building structure. Understanding the market challenges of steel beams and steel deck, the team opted for primarily CMU and precast construction that provides inherent fire protection and performance longevity while deftly responding to marketplace challenges with other more common solutions.
