The new School of Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts provides a state-of-the-art facility that matches the excellence of Columbus State’s nationally recognized culinary program. Grown organically out of Columbus State’s mission and vision, this signature development will play a significant role in defining the character of the downtown campus and will serve as an anchor on an active corner in the Discovery District.
The facility will includes 11 teaching kitchens and labs, a 90-seat teaching restaurant, a 40-seat student-staffed bakery, a 100-seat culinary theater, a 400 seat conferencing space, classrooms and other support spaces.
The building is designed around a “Culinary Hub”, a central forum around which all program is arranged. High intensity culinary activity spaces located around the hub are “on display” to student, faculty, and visitor alike. The building is designed to encourage collaboration both in an out of the classroom, with features such as unique informal learning “Collabridges” that span the culinary hub. Spaces are also designed to amplify the hospitality aspect of the curriculum by providing students with opportunity to serve as ambassadors to visitors and students from other programs.
