DesignGroup’s work for Pressley Ridge has focused on the analysis of their existing facilities for their Day School, Career Development Center (for High School Students) and for their Operations Center and to identify opportunities to upgrade these facilities to provide better services to their students and their families. Overall, their existing built space for all three programs totals roughly 60,000 SF. Through workshop discussions with stakeholder groups, we determined which spaces were sized appropriately, which were underutilized, and which were oversized.  Our goal in this effort was to develop a new program, right sized for their current and future academic needs, and to identify the best and most cost-effective opportunities for construction and investment with their existing building renovation.

Our program analysis informed our planning and design for Pressley Ridge, helping us to develop concepts for ‘Academic & Administrative Neighborhoods’ within the existing school building and allowing us to insert new entry additions at key locations on the exterior for students, staff and visitor guidance and controlled access.

With the existing building having a pinwheel form, neighborhoods were aligned as follows: The Day School Academic Neighborhood, containing classrooms, group rooms, liaison offices, calm and sensory rooms is located within the existing west wing of the school.  The Career Development Academic Neighborhood, containing classrooms, a Culinary Arts Room, STEAM classroom, group room, liaison and therapy offices, and a sensory room is located within the south wing. The Main Day School Administrative Neighborhood with the director, coordinator, and psychologist offices and conferencing spaces is in the northern wing of the school. The Family Counseling Center Administrative Neighborhood, with therapists offices, and therapy conference spaces is located in the east wing.
