Optimizing Flow and Efficiency

The Imaging Institute at West Penn Hospital originally started as seven individual imaging equipment replacement projects. Based on DesignGroup’s understanding from previous projects with the WPH radiology team, it was clear that the suite was segregated, broken up by large portions of administrative program which proved detrimental to the flow and efficiency of the floor. DesignGroup led a master planning effort that projected growth of imaging cases at WPH and developed an overall design concept to encompass the entire 43,000 square foot renovation. By renovating the entire radiology suite, departmental efficiencies are increased, and patient wayfinding becomes more intuitive.

The design facilitates a safe and healing environment that ensures patient, visitor, and staff satisfaction. The imaging treatment rooms —MRI, CT, PET, Nuclear Med and SPECT—all feature ceiling elements with realistic images of nature which help to distract the patient and provide a calming environment while receiving treatment.
